CALL FOR PAPERS
FOR THE WORKSHOP ON
The Impact of New Technologies on Public and Private Powers: National and
Supranational Perspectives
Carleton University (Ottawa, Canada) and the research center CERIDAP of the University of Milan organizes the Workshop titled The Impact of New Technologies on Public and Private Powers: National and Supranational Perspectives on 12 November 2021.
The workshop will be organized into two panels which will be devoted to public and private perspectives respectively.

The rapid spread of both distributed ledger technologies and artificial intelligence is changing the way through which power is exercised by Governments and private companies.
At national level, the impact of new technologies is putting at stake the role of State as traditionally conceived. Accordingly, the classic triad of government, territory and population has been slowly deprived of its traditional significance. The exercise of States’puissance public has been reshaped by new technologies.
In the private sector, the exercise of power by private parties has also been reshaped. At first sight, it would seem that new technologies have merely favored the participation of those who traditionally felt excluded. However, at a closer scrutiny, the massive deployment of new technologies has had a much deeper impact, namely,
it has shifted the power from certain groups to others.
Given the above scenario, the Workshop invites interested participants to analyze and discuss the impact of new technologies on the exercise of public and private powers. The Workshop is particularly interested in papers that discuss the intersections between artificial intelligence, algorithms, blockchain technology and smart contracts and any area of public law or business law. Works that explore solutions to the risks, uncertainties, inefficiencies and/or inequalities associated with the deployment of the new technology are especially encouraged.
Contributions on different topics that address, with an original perspective, the subject of how new technologies impact public and private powers are welcome as well.
Interdisciplinary approaches that assume and integrate private, public and supranational perspectives will be highly appreciated.

The interdisciplinary (in the sense of a variety of legal disciplines) character of the approach chosen will be an element of positive evaluation.
Abstracts and contact information as well as the University affiliation must be sent by 15 September 2021 through the following online form: https://forms.office.com/r/frucuvMSpD.
This Call for Papers also welcomes post-doc researchers and Ph.D. students in their third year of studies (or more).
All participants in the call will receive an e-mail concerning the outcome of their application by 1 October 2021.
The abstracts will be selected by an assessment Committee composed of Professors of Private, Public, and International and Law.
All selected papers will be published in the seminar’s proceedings.
