Since its founding a decade ago, IntLawGrrls: voices on international law, policy, practice has grown into the premier intlawblog written primarily by women – several hundred of them, plus a few men.
To help celebrate, we at the Dean Rusk International Law Center, University of Georgia School of Law, are delighted to host, at our Athens, Georgia campus, “IntLawGrrls! 10th Birthday Conference,” on March 3, 2017.
RATIONALE AND PURPOSE OF THE CONFERENCE: Economic development in Africa has been one of the most important issues on the global agenda. A number of development and law reform projects have been undertaken, but many African countries are yet to achieve successful economic development. The conference examines the development paths that have been taken in Africa over the years, discusses the challenges and explores new approaches to law and development that may yield better development results for Africa.

Following national and worldwide consumer product accidents (toys, medicine, cars, etc.), product safety has recently been at the heart of a few important legislative reforms. Canada's Consumer Product Safety Act (CCPSA) and Australia's Competition and Consumer Act (CCA) were adopted in 2010, shortly before, in 2013, the EU Commission adopted a new Package of legislative and non-legislative measures to improve consumer product safety and market surveillance (discussions in EU Parliament are ongoing).
The Journal of Law and Health is a traditional, yet innovative periodical. Articles are drawn from all disciplines that offer a perspective on the legal aspects of medicine and health sciences. This pan-disciplinary format allows flexibility in both the type and length of articles published. While retaining a scholarly format, the Journal encourages publication of the innovative idea, the bold statement, and the unique point of view. The Journal of Law and Health is a student-run publication that has been cited by many Federal Courts and the Ohio Supreme Court.
Following successful symposia at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands (2015) and the University of Coimbra, Portugal (2016) the chairs of the Housing Law Research Network invite abstracts for a Housing Law Symposium to be held at Malmö University, Sweden. Full papers are not mandatory although publication in Studies in Housing Law (Volume 3) will be available for selected papers (subject to full peer-review). There will be a symposium dinner in a well-regarded local restaurant and the opportunity to visit the nearby ancient university town of Lund.
This new research project a) analyses foundational concepts in international criminal law, b) correlates the teachings of leading philosophers of law and scholars with international criminal law, and c) explores, against this background, the potential and limits of international criminal law. By generating such knowledge and perspectives, the project i) seeks to clarify and deepen the intellectual roots of the discipline of international criminal law.
