AALS Section on National Security Law – Call for Papers for 2021 Annual Meeting

The AALS Section on National Security Law seeks scholarly papers on any topic involving national security and the law. Three or more papers will be selected for presentation at the at the Section’s Works-in-Progress session at the AALS 2021 Annual Meeting in San Francisco (COVID-19 permitting) [n.b: AALS website has since announced conference will be online. -SLN]  January 5-9, 2021. This Call for Papers is open to any tenure-track faculty member teaching at an ABA-accredited law school. At least two of the papers selected for presentation will be from junior faculty, defined as scholars who have been in a full-time law teaching position for seven years or less as of the submission deadline. Papers must be in-progress as of the Annual Meeting (for example, papers may be accepted for publication, but with revisions still underway). Scholars should submit an abstract of 500 to 1,000 words via email by Oct. 1, 2020, to Professors Emily Berman ( and Milena Sterio ( Scholars are also encouraged but not required to submit a draft of their paper in addition to the abstract.
