We are pleased to announce the Call for Papers for the Charting the Future of Private Law in Aotearoa New Zealand Symposium which will take place at the University of Otago, Dunedin on Monday 10 February 2025. The keynote speech will be given by The Honourable Sir Stephen Kós KNZM and the thematic panels will be chaired by a selection of leading voices from New Zealand academia.
Conference Themes:
Property Law: Examining current challenges and reforms in property law, including issues of ownership, use, and regulatory frameworks.
Contract Law: Analyzing recent developments in contract law, commercial transactions, and the adaptation of legal principles to modern business practices.
Torts and Civil Wrongs: Exploring evolving concepts of liability, negligence, and compensation in tort law, particularly in light of recent judicial decisions and legislative changes.
Legal Pluralism: Discussing the interaction of private law and tikanga Māori, as well as the interaction between the common law and other legal orders.
Technology and Private Law: Analysing the impact of technological advancements, such as cryptoassets/blockchain etc, on private law practices and legal relationships.
Equity and Trusts: Addressing issues concerning the development of Equity and Trusts in New Zealand, such as constructive trusts, fiduciary law, and the nature of the trust itself.
Private law and ‘…’: Analysing the intersection of private law with other areas of law and avoiding the ‘siloing’ of legal expertise.
